The Delhi Police Special Cell has dismantled a Pakistan-backed terror module operating across multiple states, arresting three operatives linked to last week&rsquo;s grenade attack outside the City Police Station in Gurdaspur, Punjab.
According to investigators, the module was allegedly coordinated by gangster-turned-terror operative Shahzad Bhatti, who is based in Pakistan and used social media platforms to recruit and control cadres in India.
The arrested accused have been identified as Vikas Prajapati alias Betu, a resident of Datia in Madhya Pradesh; Hargunpreet Singh alias Gurkaranpreet Singh from Firozpur, Punjab; and Asif alias Arish from Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh. All three are in their late teens and early twenties.
Searches conducted during the operation led to the recovery of a semi-automatic pistol, ten live cartridges, multiple mobile phones, and digital evidence, including chats with foreign handlers and surveillance videos of the targeted police station.
Investigators said Prajapati, who was wanted in an arms-smuggling case, had established contact with Bhatti through Instagram. Acting on instructions, he travelled to Gurdaspur to collect an improvised explosive device and conducted reconnaissance of the City Police Station.
Police said Prajapati later passed the grenade to Hargunpreet Singh, who allegedly carried out the attack on November 25, while another accomplice rode the motorcycle used during the operation.
Asif, the third accused, had also been in constant contact with Bhatti and was allegedly tasked with executing further attacks in Punjab. He was instructed to remain on standby after receiving location details and images of potential targets.
Police officials said foreign handlers controlled the operation remotely, overseeing recruitment, reconnaissance, logistics, and funding. The probe revealed a pattern of targeting young and financially vulnerable individuals through online platforms in exchange for quick payments.
The Special Cell is continuing searches to identify additional members of the network and is coordinating with central and state agencies to neutralise the remaining elements of the module.
