Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Monday asserted that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged Dharmasthala mass grave case is fully capable of handling the investigation, dismissing the state BJP's demand for a probe by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Speaking to reporters in Mysuru, the Home Minister stated, &ldquo;In my opinion, the SIT is efficient and capable of conducting the investigation. They are carrying out the probe effectively, and there is no need for an NIA investigation.&rdquo; He emphasised that the investigation is being handled by senior officers with great care.
Parameshwara also addressed the BJP's criticism of the ongoing probe, urging all parties to refrain from making comments that could interfere with the investigation. &ldquo;Only through investigation can the truth be brought out, not through statements. I request everyone to stop making comments,&rdquo; he said.
The Home Minister stressed that the issue should not be politicized or associated with religion, and the primary focus should be on uncovering the truth. He confirmed that the complainant, Chinnaiah, is in custody and his statements are being analysed by the SIT. &ldquo;The SIT will analyse his statements and finally submit its report to the government. Until then, we need to wait,&rdquo; he added.
Regarding the demand for a narco-analysis test on Chinnaiah, Parameshwara said that the team handling the case would proceed as per the requirements of the investigation and that it was not for anyone to dictate the course of the probe.
When asked about the BJP's planned rallies to Dharmasthala, he clarified that they were welcome to go for a 'darshan' of Lord Manjunatha and that the government would not stop or regulate them.
The Minister also stated that a fixed time frame could not be given for the investigation as it depends on the evidence collected, but he confirmed that the SIT has been instructed to complete the probe at the earliest.
Finally, Parameshwara mentioned that while the Centre has released funds for the modernisation of the police department, the state has been demanding more. He highlighted that they have sought Rs 1,650 crore from the Union Home Minister for building houses for policemen, but no funds or communication have been received yet.
