Businessman Samir Modi, the 55-year-old younger brother of fugitive former IPL chief Lalit Modi, was arrested by Delhi Police on September 18 at Indira Gandhi International Airport. He was taken into custody by officers from the New Friends Colony police station as he prepared to board a flight. Police confirmed that he had recently returned from abroad.

Samir Modi serves as Executive Director at Godfrey Phillips India Ltd, a leading tobacco company that is part of Modi Enterprises. He has been involved in the family&rsquo;s wide-ranging businesses in retail, cosmetics, and lifestyle sectors. His arrest comes at a time when the Modi family has faced public disputes and legal battles over corporate control. In 2024, Samir Modi had accused his mother Bina Modi and other company directors of conspiracy in a boardroom conflict. Though acquitted in a related defamation case, he alleged threats and misconduct, including an incident involving a security officer. Investigations in that matter did not result in charges against his mother or the directors, though the feud became widely known.
Following his detention at the airport, a local court remanded him to police custody for interrogation. Authorities have not released details regarding the relationship between the complainant and the accused or the circumstances of the alleged incident. Officials said more information would be disclosed as the investigation moves forward.
