In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Assam Rifles seized drugs worth over Rs 7.55 crore in two separate incidents across Mizoram within 24 hours. Four individuals, including a Myanmar national and three women, were arrested.
In Champhai district, troops apprehended the Myanmar citizen and recovered 20,200 methamphetamine tablets weighing 2.22 kg, estimated at Rs 6.67 crore. Commonly known as Yaba, these tablets are a highly addictive party drug.
In a second operation, based on intelligence inputs, Assam Rifles launched a search in Theiriat village, Lunglei district, near the unfenced Bangladesh border. Three local women were caught with 117.60 grams of heroin, worth Rs 88.20 lakh.
All suspects and seized drugs were handed over to Mizoram Police for further legal action.
Meanwhile, the Young Mizo Association's (YMA) Central Anti-Drugs Squad (CADS) destroyed Rs 4.29 crore worth of narcotics collected between March and June. The substances included heroin, meth, ganja, codeine syrup, and liquor. 809 individuals were apprehended during this period.
Mizoram, with unfenced borders spanning 510 km with Myanmar and 318 km with Bangladesh, continues to serve as a key smuggling corridor, particularly from Myanmar&rsquo;s Chin state.
