Kerala Police have issued a nationwide lookout notice for popular Malayalam rapper Vedan in connection with a rape case, following fears that he may attempt to leave the country to evade arrest.
The notice, which allows immigration authorities to detain him at any airport or border, comes after intelligence inputs suggested that Vedan could be planning to travel abroad. Police say this step ensures he remains within the reach of investigators until the case is resolved.
The case stems from a detailed complaint filed by a female doctor, who alleged that Vedan sexually exploited her multiple times between 2021 and 2023 under the false promise of marriage. She claimed the abuse took place in Kozhikode, Kochi, and at a friend&rsquo;s residence.
According to her statement, the two first connected via social media when she was a medical student. She alleged that she financially supported Vedan&rsquo;s career, including giving him ₹15,000 for his debut album and ₹8,300 for train travel. The relationship ended in 2023 when Vedan allegedly cut off contact, causing her mental distress.
Vedan&rsquo;s disappearance since the case registration has already impacted Kerala&rsquo;s independent music scene. A major concert in Kochi, where he was scheduled to perform, was postponed after police indicated they would arrest him if he appeared.
The investigation, led by Thrikkakkara ACP and Infopark SHO, continues while Vedan&rsquo;s anticipatory bail plea is scheduled for hearing on August 18. Authorities have warned that the lookout notice is a precautionary measure to ensure he faces the legal process without obstruction.
