Punjab Police on Sunday seized 15.775 kg of heroin, valued at nearly ₹75 crore, and arrested a 22-year-old man allegedly involved in smuggling the consignment from Pakistan.
The accused, identified as Sonu, was caught by the CIA staff of Ferozepur Police following a tip-off. 
He was intercepted along the embankment of the Sutlej River near Ali village.&nbsp;
Investigations revealed that the consignment was part of a larger cross-border drug racket. 
The operation was allegedly orchestrated by a smuggler currently lodged in Kapurthala jail, who coordinated the shipment with handlers across the border in Pakistan. 
Police are now seeking his production warrant for further interrogation.
Senior Superintendent of Police Bhupinder Singh said that traffickers are exploiting the ongoing flood-like situation along the Indo-Pak border to push narcotics into India. 
&ldquo;Taking advantage of the disaster, these elements are continuously sending consignments,&rdquo; he stated.
In the past two weeks alone, Ferozepur Police have recovered close to 30 kg of heroin, all believed to have been smuggled from Pakistan.
Authorities are currently mapping the entire network&mdash;tracking supply chains, communication links, and financial backers&mdash;with the goal of dismantling the syndicate.
