In a major counter-terror breakthrough, Punjab Police&rsquo;s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) foiled a Pakistan-backed terror plot, recovering a large cache of arms and ammunition in Gurdaspur. The plot was allegedly orchestrated by Harwinder Singh Rinda, a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) operative currently based in Pakistan and backed by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
According to DGP Gaurav Yadav, the seized hardware includes two AK-47 rifles, 16 live cartridges, two magazines, and two P-86 hand grenades, all recovered from a forest area. The consignment was meant for local operatives tasked with carrying out attacks across Punjab.
DGP Yadav posted on platform X (formerly Twitter), praising the swift action of AGTF teams, led under the supervision of ADGP Promod Ban. "The weapons were recovered before they could reach Rinda&rsquo;s associates," he wrote.
DIG Gurmeet Chauhan added that foreign-based terrorists are also involved in the network and more recoveries are expected. A case has been filed under the Arms Act and Explosives Act at Purana Shala police station in Gurdaspur.
Meanwhile, in another operation on Tuesday, Jalandhar Counter Intelligence foiled a targeted killing plot by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang with the arrest of key operative Himanshu Sood in Phagwara, Kapurthala. Police recovered two illegal pistols, including a China-made PX3.
Both developments highlight increased terror threats in Punjab and the swift response of law enforcement agencies in neutralising them.
