A 14-year-old schoolboy died in a tragic incident in Punjab&rsquo;s Ferozepur town after a licensed revolver went off accidentally while he was allegedly playing with it at home.
Police said the boy had returned from school and went to his room to fetch clothes from the cupboard, where the firearm was kept. Inadvertently pressing the trigger, he sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
The boy collapsed immediately, and family members, alerted by the sound of the gunshot, found him lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to a private hospital and later referred to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), Ludhiana, where he was placed on a ventilator. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, the family reported the matter to the police, who arrived at the scene, took statements, and initiated an investigation. Officers are probing the circumstances under which the licensed weapon was stored and accessed.
The case has raised concerns about gun safety at home, especially regarding the secure storage of firearms to prevent such tragedies.
This is not the first such incident in Punjab. Earlier in January, AAP legislator Gurpreet Bassi Gogi died of an accidental gunshot while cleaning his pistol in Ludhiana.
Authorities are continuing their investigation, with more details awaited.
