A disturbing incident from Tamil Nadu&rsquo;s Tiruvallur district has sparked public and political outrage after a video surfaced showing three women &mdash; including a five-month pregnant woman &mdash; allegedly being assaulted inside the Kanakamma Chathiram police station while attempting to file a sexual harassment complaint.
Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran condemned the act, calling it &ldquo;deeply disturbing&rdquo; and a stain on the state's law enforcement. In a strongly worded statement, he questioned, &ldquo;How can a police officer dare to assault a pregnant woman and accept bribes from the accused?&rdquo;
Nagendran accused the officer of brutal misuse of power and claimed the system under the Dravidian model of governance had failed to deliver justice. &ldquo;If victims are attacked instead of protected, where will people go?&rdquo; he asked, calling on Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to intervene and ensure the officer faces strict disciplinary and legal consequences.
The video, widely circulated on social media, has intensified demands for accountability. Civil rights groups and opposition parties have rallied behind the victims, criticising the Tamil Nadu Police for alleged custodial abuse and misuse of authority.
The Tamil Nadu government has not yet issued an official response. The incident has reignited debates around police reform and the protection of vulnerable groups in custody.
