A rape convict who jumped parole was arrested by Delhi Police from Moti Nagar just before he could sell his house and flee the city, officials confirmed Friday.
Aditya Kumar, 34, was sentenced to 10 years in jail in January 2024 for raping a woman in Laxmi Nagar back in 2015. While serving time at Mandoli Jail, he was granted interim bail on medical grounds in March and was due to surrender by May 5&mdash;but never returned.
Based on a tip-off by Head Constable Amit, a Crime Branch team placed the area under surveillance for 14 hours. The suspect was finally located and arrested from the first floor of a building in Ramesh Nagar.
Kumar, a Class 12 pass-out, had worked for a private firm and was planning to liquidate his assets before disappearing.
In a separate operation, another absconder&mdash;Pankaj alias "Pankha", wanted in 8 cases including murder&mdash;was arrested from Adarsh Nagar. He had been on the run since 2020 and was declared a proclaimed offender in a robbery case registered at Mahendra Park police station.
Pankaj, 37, lived in Jahangirpuri and has a long history of violent crimes including armed robbery, murder, and weapons possession.
