In a major breakthrough, the Inter-State Cell of the Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested 70-year-old Hamidullah Bundu Khan, a convicted murderer who had been on the run for four years after jumping parole.
Hamidullah was serving a 20-year sentence for poisoning his two younger daughters and attempting to kill his eldest in a horrifying incident that took place on July 29, 1999, in Delhi&rsquo;s Old Mustafabad area. He was apprehended on July 25 following a sustained operation involving technical surveillance, manual tracking, and inputs from secret informants.
The arrest was made by a team led by Inspector Satender Poonia under the supervision of ACP Ramesh Chandra Lamba. The operation included officers from the Inter-State Cell, such as Inspector Sohan Lal Bijarniya, Sub Inspector Mukesh, ASI Vinay, and Constable Amit.
According to police, Hamidullah gave his daughters capsules on the pretext of treating stomach pain. The eldest daughter, suspicious of her father&rsquo;s behavior, pretended to take the pill and alerted neighbors after her younger sisters began frothing at the mouth. Both girls were declared dead at the hospital, while Hamidullah fled but was caught the next day.
He was convicted under IPC Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), and 328 (causing hurt by poison). Years later, he was released on parole but failed to return, prompting a manhunt.
Hamidullah had been hiding in Loni, Ghaziabad, frequently changing addresses to avoid detection. Police said his eventual capture is a testament to the Crime Branch&rsquo;s relentless pursuit and a reminder that justice can&rsquo;t be outrun.
