Customs officials at Ahmedabad International Airport seized 4.645 kg of ganja from a passenger arriving on a Bangkok-Ahmedabad flight on the night of January 21. The drugs, concealed inside a pillow, were discovered during luggage scanning. The market value of the seized drugs is estimated at over ₹7 crore.
The ganja, a form of hydroponic marijuana, is stronger and of higher quality than regular ganja. This bust follows another similar incident earlier on January 21, where a woman passenger was arrested after 2.349kg&nbsp;of hydroponic weed was found in her possession.
In another case, customs officials found 10 packets of hydroponic weed packed in vacuum seals in a different passenger's bag. After the passenger failed to provide a satisfactory explanation, they were arrested. Investigations are ongoing to trace the recipient and uncover the trafficking network.
Authorities are increasingly concerned about the rise in trafficking of hydroponic weed, especially through Ahmedabad. There are suspicions of a Gujarati drug mafia network involved in smuggling these drugs into India. Customs officials are intensifying efforts to curb this illegal activity.
