Odisha Police on Monday arrested a drug peddler and recovered 400 grams of brown sugar worth nearly ₹40 lakh during a targeted raid in the Airfield Police Station area of Bhubaneswar.
The accused has been identified as Sk Akbar, a resident of Arada Bazar (Golapola) under the Sahadevkhunta police limits in Balasore district.
Acting on specific intelligence, the Special Crime Unit (SCU) of the Commissionerate Police conducted a surveillance operation to curb the illegal brown sugar network operating in Bhubaneswar. Officers intercepted the accused near the Lingaraj Road Railway Station, where he was allegedly waiting to carry out a narcotics transaction.
Police said the timely intervention led to the recovery of 400 grams of brown sugar, and the accused was taken into custody without resistance. He is currently being questioned to identify his handlers, supply routes, and wider criminal links.
The Commissionerate Police stated that the seizure marks a significant breakthrough in their ongoing crackdown on drug syndicates in the city. Officials reaffirmed their commitment to dismantling networks involved in illegal narcotics trade and bringing all offenders to justice.
Investigators are now working to trace the primary accused, Sk Sadik Mohammad (30), from Balasore&rsquo;s Sahadevkhunta area, who remains at large. Police have urged citizens to report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking.
