Nine Killed as Speeding Car Ploughs into Crowd Amid Rain in Pune
Nine individuals, including a six-year-old boy, lost their lives after a speeding vehicle ploughed into a group of people in Maharashtra&rsquo;s Pune district on Wednesday evening. The tragic incident occurred at approximately 6:45 pm along the Jejuri-Morgaon road, during heavy rainfall.
A white Swift Dzire, reportedly travelling at high speed, struck several people gathered near a roadside eatery known as Shriram Dhaba. The victims were believed to be standing by the road when the accident occurred. Among them was the eatery&rsquo;s owner, Somnath Ramchandra Vyse, who was in the process of unloading a refrigerator from a pickup vehicle.
Police and emergency services reached the site promptly, and operations to clear the wreckage began immediately with the help of cranes. While eight individuals died at the scene, four others &mdash; a man, a woman, and two children &mdash; sustained serious injuries. One of the children later succumbed to injuries during treatment.
Those confirmed deceased include Somnath Ramchandra Vyse, Ramu Sanjeevani Yadav, Ajay Kumar Chavan, Ajit Ashok Jadhav, Kiran Bharat Raut, Ashwini Santosh S R, Akshay Sanjay Raut, and six-year-old Sarthak Kiran Raut. One body remains unidentified.
The injured are currently receiving treatment at Shantai Hospital in Jejuri. Investigations are underway to determine the precise circumstances leading to the crash.
