Police have arrested nine people in connection with the violence that broke out during the transfer of five accused in singer Zubeen Garg&rsquo;s death case to the Baksa district jail in Assam, officials said on Saturday.
According to Baksa Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ujjal Pratim Baruah, several others involved in the incident have been identified, and efforts are underway to track down and arrest them.
&ldquo;We have arrested nine people so far. More have been identified. Some of the accused are absconding, but they will be apprehended soon. The investigation is being taken very seriously, and a dedicated team is working on it. The media and local residents are cooperating with us,&rdquo; SSP Baruah said.
The violence erupted near Baksa Jail on Wednesday when five accused in Garg&rsquo;s death case were brought there after a Guwahati court remanded them to judicial custody.
Baruah assured that &ldquo;true fans of Garg have nothing to worry,&rdquo; adding that those who instigated the unrest &ldquo;in the guise of fans&rdquo; have been identified.
During the clashes, several people, including police officers and media personnel, were injured as protesters pelted stones at vehicles carrying the accused and&nbsp;set several vehicles on fire. 
Police responded with baton charges and tear gas shells to bring the situation under control.
Following the violence, internet and mobile data services were suspended in Baksa district to prevent further escalation. 
The suspension was lifted on Friday, after the situation returned to normal.&nbsp;
However, prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS) remain in effect in Mushalpur town&mdash;where the jail is located&mdash;and nearby areas. Security has also been tightened around the facility.
Zubeen Garg, a renowned Assamese singer and composer, died on September 19 while swimming in the sea in Singapore, where he was attending the 4th North East India Festival (NEIF).
The five accused currently lodged in Baksa jail include NEIF chief organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, the singer&rsquo;s manager Siddhartha Sharma, his cousin and police officer Sandipan Garg, and his personal security officers Nandeswar Bora and Prabin Baishya.
Additionally, two of Garg&rsquo;s band members&mdash;Shekharjyoti Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta&mdash;were also remanded to judicial custody by the Kamrup (Metro) Chief Judicial Magistrate on Friday.&nbsp;
They have been transferred to Haflong prison in Dima Hasao district.
A 10-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam Police&rsquo;s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is currently probing the circumstances surrounding the singer&rsquo;s death.
