The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a prime suspect in the Muzaffarpur AK-47 rifle and ammunition seizure case, marking a major step forward in cracking an arms trafficking network.
The accused, identified as Manjoor Khan alias Babu Bhai, was taken into custody for allegedly conspiring with others to smuggle prohibited bore weapons, including AK-47 assault rifles, from Nagaland into Bihar.
Investigators said Khan was a close associate of the prime accused Vikash Kumar, who allegedly spearheaded the arms-running operation. According to the NIA, Khan played a crucial role in procuring and transporting illegal arms with the aim of creating unrest and threatening national security.
The case dates back to July 2024, when Fakuli police in Muzaffarpur recovered an AK-47 rifle with a lens and live ammunition near Murghatiya Bridge. The seizure led to the arrest of four men Vikash Kumar, Satyam Kumar, Devmani Rai, and Ahmad Ansari who were booked under the Arms Act.
In August 2024, the NIA took charge of the investigation and later filed a supplementary charge sheet against the arrested individuals under IPC Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) and Sections 13 &amp; 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act), citing evidence of a larger conspiracy.
With Khan&rsquo;s arrest, the agency believes it has significantly weakened the arms smuggling network, though the probe remains active to identify other conspirators, financiers, and potential recipients of the weapons.
