The National Investigation Agency (NIA), with support from West Bengal Police, has arrested an MBBS student from Al-Falah University in connection with the car explosion near Delhi&rsquo;s Red Fort Metro Station earlier this week. Officials confirmed that the student, identified as Nisar Alam, was detained from Dalkhola in North Dinajpur district, West Bengal.
Alam&rsquo;s family has been living in Ludhiana, Punjab, although their ancestral home remains in Dalkhola. He had travelled to the town earlier this week with his mother and sister to attend a family function. Investigators traced his mobile tower location to Dalkhola, leading to his arrest on Friday.
After being taken into custody, Alam was first taken to the Islampur Police Station for preliminary interrogation. Later, he was shifted to Siliguri in the Darjeeling district. Officials indicated that he could be taken to Delhi on transit remand for further questioning.
Residents of Konal village, where his ancestral home is located, described Alam as soft-spoken and well-mannered, expressing shock at his alleged link to extremist activity.
Al-Falah University in Faridabad has been under intense scrutiny since the Delhi explosion and the discovery of a massive cache of explosives linked to a suspected Jaish-e-Mohammed module. Over the past few days, investigators have questioned 52 doctors associated with the university as part of a wider probe. Authorities are examining the roles of three key suspects, Dr Muzammil Shakeel, Dr Shaheen Shahid, and Dr Umar Mohammed, believed to be at the centre of the terror network.
The blast near Red Fort claimed 12 lives, injured many more, and triggered nationwide concern over the spread of radicalisation within academic institutions.
