Investigators probing the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi have uncovered two crucial developments pointing towards a wider criminal nexus, with financial crimes and a suspected conspiracy at the centre of the chilling case.
The most startling revelation has come from Raja&rsquo;s elder brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, who told police that Sonam &ndash; now under arrest for her husband&rsquo;s murder &ndash; was opposed to marrying Raja and had threatened her family in the run-up to the wedding. According to Vipin, Sonam warned her mother that the family would face consequences if they forced her into the marriage. This threat, investigators now believe, may have been a precursor to a calculated plan.
Sonam was allegedly in a long-term relationship with Raj Kushwah, an employee at her family's business. Following Raja&rsquo;s murder, fresh links have emerged tying Kushwah to illegal hawala operations. Police have traced suspicious financial activity spanning four bank accounts registered in the name of Jitendra Raghuvanshi, a resident of Dewas believed to be a close associate of Kushwah.
Sources close to the investigation say Raj Kushwah managed financial dealings for Sonam and was allegedly in constant contact with her to move funds. He is suspected to have disbursed ₹50,000 from hawala funds to his accomplices prior to the couple&rsquo;s ill-fated trip to Shillong. Police are investigating whether Sonam herself facilitated the transfer of this money.
Jitendra Raghuwanshi, now under the scanner, is believed to be instrumental in laundering large sums of money through hawala channels on behalf of Kushwah and possibly Sonam. Police teams in Dewas are attempting to locate him for questioning.
Investigators believe Sonam and Raj plotted Raja&rsquo;s murder well in advance. After the killing, Sonam is suspected to have stayed in a hotel room with Raj before returning to Indore, where she remained for two days. The case, which initially began as a missing person report in Meghalaya, has since unravelled into a complex web of deceit, financial crime, and betrayal.
Police say further arrests and revelations may follow as the investigation expands to trace the full extent of the criminal network behind the murder.
