A routine afternoon at Chandigarh&rsquo;s Rose Garden in Sector 16 turned alarming when visitors heard a scream from the women&rsquo;s toilet around 3:15 pm on November 29. Traffic police personnel and bystanders rushed to check and discovered a woman lying in a pool of blood with a deep wound on her neck. She was barely alive and died moments later. She was taken to a nearby government hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Police identified the woman as Diksha Thakur, 30, from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Documents found in her bag included a Bihar Staff Selection Commission form, confirming her identity. Investigators later learned she had been living as a paying guest in Mohali&rsquo;s Phase 11 for four months and worked as a customer care executive with Chaupal TV in Chandigarh&rsquo;s Industrial Area.
According to police, Diksha had been on medical leave for more than a week due to anxiety-related health issues. Earlier in the week, she visited a hospital in Panchkula with her brother-in-law and was prescribed medication. She returned to work on Saturday but left early around 2 pm, saying she felt unwell. She then headed to the Rose Garden, where the incident occurred. The toilet attendant was absent that day, leaving no eyewitnesses.
A four-inch kitchen knife was recovered from the scene along with antidepressant tablets found in her bag. Investigators are reviewing call records and CCTV footage to determine whether the death was self-inflicted or involved foul play. Police officials stated that all angles, personal, circumstantial, and psychological, are being examined. The post-mortem and forensic results are expected to provide key answers.
The area has been sealed off, and security has been tightened in the park, which is visited daily by families, women, and senior citizens.
