In a grim incident early Monday morning in Arfabad&rsquo;s densely populated Alamganj area, two family members were shot dead and another critically injured. Around 9:15 a.m., two assailants on a motorcycle opened fire at retired nurse Mahalaxmi Mehta, her husband Dhananjay Mehta, and their daughter, who were heading to the local market.
All three sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to Nalanda Medical College and Hospital. Sadly, Mahalaxmi and their daughter&mdash;both severely wounded in the chest, abdomen, and back&mdash;succumbed to their injuries during treatment. Dhananjay, who was shot in the leg, is undergoing treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
Police have identified personal enmity as a probable motive and are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area. A forensic team has collected evidence, including spent cartridges, from the crime scene. Authorities are awaiting Dhananjay&rsquo;s recovery so he can provide a detailed statement for the investigation.
The attack has triggered alarm among residents of the cramped Ashok Rajpath neighbourhood. Many are demanding increased police vigilance and improved security measures as such brazen acts of violence have become a growing concern.
