A minor tribal boy was critically injured after accidentally stepping on a pressure improvised explosive device (IED) allegedly planted by Maoists in Chhattisgarh&rsquo;s Bijapur district, police said on Friday.
The incident took place on Thursday evening in Peedia village near Gangloor, a Maoist-affected region, when the boy unknowingly triggered the buried explosive, officials reported.
In a statement, the police condemned the blast, calling it a reflection of the &ldquo;inhuman nature&rdquo; of Naxal violence, which continues to harm innocent villagers. 
Several civilians in Bijapur&rsquo;s remote interiors have been injured or killed in similar IED explosions in recent months.
Following the blast, CRPF personnel from the 199th and 85th battalions rushed to the site, administered first aid, and moved the boy to the district hospital for further treatment. 
His condition is said to be critical.
Security forces have since launched a search operation in the nearby forest areas to track down those responsible and secure the region, police added.
