A court in West Bengal's West Burdwan district has sentenced a man to death for the rape and murder of his minor daughter, delivering the verdict within just 15 months of the horrific crime.
Judge Suparna Bandopadhyay of the exclusive POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) court in Asansol based her decision on compelling evidence, including the testimony of 16 witnesses and crucial DNA evidence linking the father to the crime. Public prosecutor Somnath Chatteraj highlighted that the father's DNA was found on the victim's body, and other evidence, including a rope used for strangulation, was recovered from a dustbin near the home.
The incident occurred on May 13 last year in the Narsinghbandh area of Asansol. The victim's mother discovered her 15-year-old daughter bleeding from her nose and ears, with a scar on her neck. Despite her husband's attempts to prevent it, neighbours intervened and took the girl to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. An initial autopsy confirmed that the minor had been raped before her murder. The father was arrested and subsequently convicted on the basis of this overwhelming evidence.
