A 22-year-old man with a history of criminal cases was shot dead near Jama Masjid in northeast Delhi&rsquo;s Seelampur area late on Wednesday night. 
Police said preliminary findings suggest the killing may be linked to an ongoing gang rivalry.
According to officials, a team from Seelampur police station rushed to the scene after receiving reports of gunfire around 10:40 pm. 
They found the victim lying in a pool of blood. 
The man was taken to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. 
He was later identified as Misbah, a resident of Gali Jaffarabad.
Investigators recovered at least 20 empty cartridges from the spot. 
Forensic teams collected samples and evidence, and a case has been registered.
&ldquo;Several teams have been formed to identify and arrest those responsible,&rdquo; said a police officer, adding that the murder appears to be gang-related.
Initial investigation revealed that Misbah was associated with the Hashim Baba gang and was facing at least seven criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder, robbery, and charges under the Arms Act.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage and questioning local sources to identify the assailants. 
&ldquo;Rivalry between local gangs is one of the key angles being explored,&rdquo; an officer said.
