In a chilling case of domestic violence and deception, Hebbagodi police have arrested a 25-year-old electrician for allegedly murdering his wife and staging her death as an accidental electrocution using a water heater.
The accused, Prashant Kammar, a native of Huvina Hadagali in Ballari district, was arrested for the murder of Reshma (32), a resident of Maragondanahalli. The case was registered based on a complaint filed by Reshma&rsquo;s sister, Renuka.
Police investigations revealed that Reshma, a widow, had a 15-year-old daughter from her previous marriage. She met Prashant on Instagram around nine months ago, and the two married soon after. However, their relationship turned abusive, with frequent arguments fueled by Prashant&rsquo;s suspicions about her fidelity.
On October 15, a heated argument escalated into violence when Prashant allegedly assaulted and strangled Reshma to death. He then placed her body in the bathroom, filled a bucket with water, and turned on the water heater to make it appear as if she had been electrocuted.
Reshma&rsquo;s daughter discovered her mother&rsquo;s lifeless body later that evening and alerted relatives. Locals rushed her to a private hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Prashant initially claimed that Reshma died of electric shock, but inconsistencies in his account and his behaviour aroused suspicion. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime, admitting that jealousy drove him to kill her.
Hebbagodi police have registered a case of murder under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is underway.
