A chilling case of suspected honour killing has surfaced in Hamirpur district, Uttar Pradesh, where a 24-year-old man was allegedly tied up and beaten to death by his cousin-girlfriend&rsquo;s family. The incident took place in Parchh village under the Maudaha area on Wednesday afternoon.
The victim, identified as Ravi Shriwas from Jaspura in Banda district, had gone to meet the 18-year-old woman he was in a long-term relationship with. The situation turned violent when the woman&rsquo;s uncle, Pintoo, found Ravi at the house and attacked him with a knife. Soon after, other relatives reportedly tied Ravi with a rope and beat him with sticks, killing him on the spot.
The accused family initially claimed Ravi had consumed poison, even presenting an empty container, but doctors alerted the police after finding clear signs of assault.
Following Ravi&rsquo;s death, the distraught woman attempted suicide by slitting her throat and was rushed to Maudaha hospital, where she remains critical. Her uncle Pintoo also suffered injuries in the altercation.
Hamirpur SP Deeksha Sharma confirmed that an FIR has been filed against five people, and three have been detained. Additional police forces have been deployed to maintain peace in the village.
Police said Ravi and the woman were first cousins, and both families strongly opposed their relationship. Earlier this year, the couple had eloped just days before her first scheduled marriage on June 2, deepening family tensions.
The woman&rsquo;s second marriage was set for November 2, and investigators believe Ravi had gone to convince her to flee again. Before leaving, he reportedly recorded a video expressing anger over her upcoming wedding.
The woman&rsquo;s grandmother, however, claimed Ravi attacked first and tried to forcibly take her granddaughter away. Police have said the probe is ongoing and the woman&rsquo;s statement will be recorded once her health stabilises.
