The body of a 32-year-old woman was found stuffed inside a suitcase in her Bengaluru flat, with police detaining her husband from Maharashtra on suspicion of murder.
The victim, identified as Gouri Khedekar, was living with her husband, Rakesh Rajendra Khedekar, in an apartment in the Doddakammanahalli area under Hulimavu police limits. Rakesh, a project manager at a private firm, was detained in Maharashtra, police said.
According to officials, Rakesh called the house owner and informed him about his wife's body in the flat. The house owner then alerted the police, who arrived at the scene around 5.30 pm on Wednesday.
&ldquo;The woman&rsquo;s body was found in the suitcase kept in the washroom,&rdquo; said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Sarah Fathima.
A forensic examination revealed a stab injury on the body, a police officer said. Initially, officers suspected suicide but found the circumstances suspicious upon discovering the body inside a suitcase.
The couple, originally from Maharashtra, had been married for two years and had moved into the third-floor rented flat in February 2025. Gouri was a homemaker and had been looking for a job, police said.
Authorities are investigating the motive behind the murder, and the victim's parents have been informed.
