Local authorities have detained a 22-year-old man in connection with the sexual assault and killing of a six-year-old girl in the Darbhanga district.
The victim disappeared on Saturday evening while playing near her residence with friends. After an extensive search by her family, her body was discovered late that night near a pond on the outskirts of their neighbourhood. Witnesses reported that the sound of barking dogs led the family to the site.
Forensic experts and cybercrime units joined the investigation, utilising witness statements from other children present at the scene to identify the suspect, who lived in the same community. The body has since been transported to Darbhanga Medical College Hospital for a formal autopsy.
The discovery of the crime triggered intense local demonstrations on Sunday morning. The protests escalated as the crowd targeted vehicles and engaged in stone-pelting against law enforcement. In response, police utilised force to manage the unrest and deployed additional units from neighbouring stations to restore order in the locality.
