A shocking incident unfolded at a private law college in Punjab&rsquo;s Tarn Taran district on Monday morning when a first-year student allegedly shot his female classmate dead inside a classroom before attempting to take his own life.
The incident occurred at Mai Bhago Law College in Usma village, just before classes were scheduled to begin. CCTV footage from the campus captured the sequence of events.
Police said the accused, identified as 20-year-old Prince Raj, entered the classroom and engaged in a brief conversation with the victim, Sandeep Kaur, 19. Moments later, he allegedly fired a shot at her head, killing her on the spot. Immediately after the attack, he turned the firearm on himself.
The accused was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition and remains under medical care.
Investigators said the motive behind the shooting is still being examined, though preliminary findings point towards a possible personal relationship between the two students. Mobile phones belonging to both individuals have been seized and sent for forensic analysis to reconstruct events leading up to the incident.
The victim&rsquo;s family raised serious concerns about campus safety. Sandeep Kaur&rsquo;s mother, a widow and the sole provider for her seven daughters, questioned how a firearm could be brought into a classroom without detection, calling for accountability over security arrangements at the institution.
Police said further investigation is underway.
