A 22-year-old law student from Uttar Pradesh&rsquo;s Kanpur was brutally attacked, leaving him with his stomach slit open and two fingers chopped off. 
The incident, which occurred following a dispute over the price of a medicine, has sparked outrage over the alleged police inaction and claims of false cases being filed against the victim.
According to police, the victim, Abhijeet Singh Chandel, a first-year LLB student at Kanpur University and resident of Keshavpuram, had gone to a local pharmacy near his home when an argument broke out with the shop owner, Amar Singh Chauhan, over the cost of a medicine. 
The verbal altercation quickly escalated into violence when Chauhan, his brother Vijay Singh, and two associates &mdash; Prince Srivastava and Nikhil Tiwari &mdash; allegedly attacked Chandel with a cleaver.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kalyanpur) Ranjeet Kumar told PTI that the attackers struck Chandel on the head and stomach, causing severe injuries. 
They then used the cleaver to split open his abdomen and chopped off two of his fingers.
The blood-soaked student collapsed on the road, where locals rushed to help before the attackers fled. His family tied his intestines with a piece of cloth to stop the bleeding and rushed him to a hospital. 
However, four hospitals reportedly refused to admit him due to the seriousness of his condition, before Regency Hospital finally admitted him. 
Doctors conducted a two-hour surgery, during which Chandel received 14 stitches on his head.
Chandel&rsquo;s mother, Neelam Singh Chandel, accused the attackers of using their influence to manipulate the police.&nbsp;
&ldquo;The accused are well connected with police and got a false extortion case filed against my son and me the same night,&rdquo; she alleged, adding, &ldquo;Instead of arresting those behind the murderous attack, police booked my son, who is fighting for his life.&rdquo;
Police later confirmed the arrest of three accused, including the pharmacy owner, and said that a manhunt is underway for the fourth accused, Prince Srivastava.
ACP Kumar stated that the arrested individuals have been charged with attempt to murder.&nbsp;
He also confirmed that an extortion case had been registered against Chandel based on a complaint by Chauhan but clarified that a separate case was filed following the violent attack.
