A shocking murder in a south Kolkata hotel has revealed that a monetary dispute following a meeting arranged through a dating app triggered the killing.
According to investigators, 20 year old Dhruba Saha and 20 year old Komal Saha checked into a Kasba hotel on Friday night along with 33 year old IT professional Adarsh Losalka. The following afternoon, Losalka was found dead in his room, lying naked with his legs bound. Police reported a severe head injury and confirmed that he died due to asphyxiation.
On Sunday evening, police arrested Dhruba and Komal, who told officers that they worked as an escort and agent duo. Komal had reportedly connected with Losalka through a dating app and arranged to meet him at the hotel after several conversations.
Both suspects, residents of North 24 Parganas and Nadia districts but living together in East Sinthee near Dum Dum, later surrendered and admitted to their involvement.
During interrogation, the pair stated that an argument broke out between Komal and Losalka over payment after she went to his room for the night. Komal then called Dhruba from the adjoining room. Police say Losalka fell during the altercation, suffering a head injury. The two then tied his legs, strangled him, and escaped with his phone and wallet. Losalka had reportedly booked two rooms online for the meeting.
Investigators are also examining other angles, including the possibility of torture or sexual violence. The victim&rsquo;s mobile phone and wallet are still missing.
In response to the incident, Kolkata Police ordered surprise inspections across hotels in the city on Monday. Officers have been instructed to verify every guest&rsquo;s identity, match faces with ID photos, and check whether the information provided aligns with hotel registration records.
Officials said the decision follows a series of murders inside hotels in Park Street and Kasba, alongside heightened concern after recent blasts in Delhi. Police Commissioner Manoj Verma has outlined stricter security measures and directed all police stations, intelligence units, and the headquarters team to carry out regular hotel inspections.
For foreign guests, passport and visa verification will be mandatory. Police will also document guests&rsquo; arrival points, next destinations, and occupations to ensure the information matches hotel records.
