A 20-year-old woman from Kolkata has alleged that she was gang-raped by two acquaintances during her birthday celebrations, prompting police to launch a search for the accused.
According to Kolkata Police, the incident took place on Friday in the Regent&rsquo;s Park area in south Kolkata. The victim complained to Haridevpur Police Station late on Saturday night, following which an FIR was registered under relevant sections.
Police sources said the accused, identified as Chandan Mallick and Deep, had befriended the woman earlier this year, introducing themselves through connections with a Durga Puja committee. On her birthday, the two men allegedly invited her to a flat, where after a meal, they locked the door and sexually assaulted her.
The survivor managed to leave the flat and later informed her family, who helped her file the complaint.
&ldquo;We have registered the case and initiated a search for the accused,&rdquo; a senior Kolkata Police officer confirmed.
The investigation is ongoing.
