Amid continuing outrage over the alleged rape of a 23-year-old medical student in Durgapur, another disturbing case has surfaced in Kolkata, where a second-year engineering student was allegedly raped by her classmate in the Anandapur area.
According to police reports, the accused allegedly laced the woman&rsquo;s drink with drugs at her rented flat and, once she lost consciousness, raped her. 
The survivor, originally from another state, later filed a complaint at the Anandapur police station.&nbsp;
The accused initially went into hiding but was arrested after returning home.&nbsp;
He has been remanded to police custody until October 22 following a court order.
Authorities have initiated an investigation but have not released additional details at this stage.
Meanwhile, the Durgapur medical student rape case continues to see new developments. 
After examining CCTV footage and medical reports, investigators have ruled out the possibility of gangrape.&nbsp;
Police Commissioner Sunil Kumar Choudhary stated that the evidence indicates the involvement of only one suspect &mdash; the victim&rsquo;s male classmate, who has already been arrested.
CCTV footage shows the student and her classmate leaving and re-entering the campus together on the night of October 10, contradicting earlier allegations of multiple assailants. 
The other five accused remain in police custody as the investigation proceeds.
