A five-member Special Investigation Team has been formed by Kolkata Police to examine the alleged gang-rape of a 24-year-old woman on the premises of a state-run law college in the city&rsquo;s Kasba locality.&nbsp;
The investigation is being led under the oversight of Assistant Commissioner of Police Pradip Kumar Ghosal from the Special Security Division, as confirmed by official sources on Saturday.&nbsp;
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday evening, during the hours between 7:30 pm and 10:50 pm, when the student had visited the college to submit examination-related forms. The police have taken four individuals into custody in connection with the case.
Three of the accused were arrested on Thursday&mdash;two current students, identified as 19-year-old Zaib Ahmed and 20-year-old Pramit Mukhopadhyay, along with Manojit Mishra, a 31-year-old staff member at the college.&nbsp;
A fourth suspect, a campus security guard, was apprehended on Saturday, bringing the total number of arrests to four. All three initially detained individuals have been remanded in police custody until July 1.
Medical examinations have supported the survivor&rsquo;s claims, with forensic findings aligning with accounts of sexual violence. Doctors involved in the evaluation reported physical evidence that included "forceful penetration, bite marks, and scratches from fingernails," consistent with her statements.
In her official complaint, the woman recounted how she pleaded with the primary perpetrator to let her leave. &ldquo;I touched his feet, but he did not let me go,&rdquo; her statement read. She further alleged that he instructed the two others to escort her into the guard&rsquo;s room and ensure the guard waited outside. &ldquo;They did so,&rdquo; she said in her report.
The SIT continues to pursue the investigation as authorities work to piece together the full sequence of events.
