A violent clash erupted in Thrissur on Saturday after a land dispute turned tragic, with a man allegedly attacking his father with a machete, leading to a tense hours-long standoff with police.
The incident occurred around 1:30 pm near the Shivakshetram temple. 
The accused, identified as Vishnu, reportedly locked himself inside his residence after attacking his father, Shivan, an auto-rickshaw driver. 
Shivan suffered severe injuries to his head and neck and was rushed to Thrissur Medical College, where he remains in a coma.
Family Dispute Turns Violent
According to police, Shivan and his wife had gone to meet Vishnu at his rented house to discuss land documents. 
During the conversation, Vishnu allegedly claimed that he had thrown the papers into a well. 
Moments later, he attacked his father in the kitchen and then chased him outside with a knife. 
Shivan&rsquo;s wife and a relative managed to escape and alert neighbours.
Three-Hour Standoff
Police and fire department personnel quickly arrived and surrounded the building. 
Vishnu, armed with knives, locked himself on the upper floor and threatened to kill himself if officers tried to enter. 
For nearly three hours, authorities and locals attempted to defuse the situation by breaking windows and roof tiles to reach him.
At one point, Vishnu climbed onto a neighbouring terrace, pressing knives to his neck to prevent anyone from approaching.
The standoff finally ended around 5:30 pm after police and local residents persuaded Vishnu to surrender. 
He was taken into custody and later admitted to Thrissur Medical College for a psychiatric evaluation.
Concerns About Mental Health
Neighbours informed police that Vishnu had been living separately from his parents and was often seen performing &ldquo;strange rituals and occult practices&rdquo; alone, sparking concerns about his mental condition.
Authorities are investigating the case further and assessing Vishnu&rsquo;s mental stability before proceeding with legal action.
