In a shocking incident from Kerala's Kannur district, a 40-year-old woman named Razeena died by suicide after being subjected to moral policing by three activists of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), the political wing of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI).
Razeena was found hanging in her room on Tuesday. The case came to light on Thursday following the discovery of a suicide note naming three SDPI members and detailing the harassment she endured.
Police investigations revealed that the incident began on Sunday when Razeena was seen conversing with a male friend near his car. A group of men confronted the duo, hurled verbal abuse at Razeena, and forcibly confiscated her friend&rsquo;s phone and tablet. The activists reportedly detained the man for nearly five hours, accessed their private chats, and then summoned both families to a local office where they revealed the contents.
Humiliated by the public exposure of her private conversations and deeply disturbed, Razeena took her own life two days later.
Following the note&rsquo;s recovery, police arrested the three named SDPI activists, who have since been remanded to judicial custody. The confiscated devices were also recovered.
The case has sparked widespread outrage and renewed concerns over growing incidents of moral policing in the state. Authorities are probing the possibility of more individuals being involved.
