The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday directed Prajwal Revanna, the prime accused in the sexual assault and obscene videos case, to approach the trial court again for bail. The court also instructed the lower court to decide on the matter within 10 days.
Prajwal Revanna, a former JD(S) MP, is the grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and son of senior JD(S) leader and MLA H.D. Revanna.
Earlier, both the trial and higher courts rejected his bail pleas. The Bench, headed by Justice S.R. Krishna Kumar, clarified that Revanna can return to the High Court only if the trial court denies bail once again.
Revanna&rsquo;s counsel, Senior Advocate Prabhuling Navadgi, argued that the High Court had the jurisdiction to hear the matter directly. However, the Bench maintained that due procedure must be followed.
The fresh bail application cites a &ldquo;change in circumstances&rdquo; and delay in trial proceedings as grounds for consideration. The defence alleged the complainant came forward four years after the incident, and that charges were made during her statement recording.
The prosecution countered, blaming Revanna himself for delaying proceedings by frequently summoning defence witnesses and stalling trial progress.
Revanna remains lodged in Bengaluru Central Prison, facing multiple serious charges, including sexual assault, blackmail, repeated rape, and criminal intimidation.
