A 20-year-old third-year student of Jadavpur University allegedly died by suicide after jumping into a river from a moving train in West Bengal&rsquo;s West Midnapore district on Tuesday night, police said.
The student&rsquo;s body was recovered from the river on Wednesday morning and sent for post-mortem examination.
According to police officials, the student, a resident of Bankura district, was travelling home from Kolkata with his mother on Tuesday.
&ldquo;His mother went to the washroom at night, and when she returned to her seat, her son was missing. Fellow passengers told her they had seen him standing near the train door,&rdquo; a family member said on Wednesday.
The deceased&rsquo;s father told reporters that his son had been battling depression and was undergoing medical treatment for it.
