Several individuals attempted to gain entry into the Narendra Modi Stadium during the IPL 2025 final without valid tickets, despite multi-layered security protocols in place. While these efforts raised concerns over potential flaws in ticket verification and crowd control, police confirmed that all unauthorised access attempts were successfully intercepted at various security levels.
The stadium, which accommodates over 100,000 spectators, saw an overwhelming turnout on the night of the match. Among the gathering were a substantial number of individuals who arrived without authorised entry passes. A senior police official told Benefit News that the crowd was managed effectively and no disturbance to public order occurred during the event.
Ticket verification was conducted through a tiered process. Initially, ticketing agency volunteers manually checked the tickets. At this preliminary level, individuals carrying outdated tickets, colour printouts, or screenshots of QR codes were occasionally able to pass through.&nbsp;
However, these unauthorised entries were promptly detected at the second checkpoint, which involved automated turnstiles equipped with barcode scanners.
Police personnel stationed at these scanning points intercepted the violators. In several cases, individuals were either denied entry at the gate or removed from the premises in police vehicles. Authorities confirmed that everyone found without a valid ticket was subjected to a frisking procedure, during which no dangerous items were discovered.
A senior officer involved in the stadium security operation stated, &ldquo;Due to the alertness of our personnel across gates, DFMDs (Door Frame Metal Detectors), ramps, and podiums, multiple unauthorised entrants were identified and stopped. The situation was handled effectively without any breach.&rdquo;
Although the security framework was largely successful, Chandkheda police reported six instances of mobile phone theft or snatching during the match. All cases have been registered either as formal FIRs or via the e-FIR system.&nbsp;
Ongoing investigations have led to the arrest of two individuals, with stolen mobile phones recovered in connection with the cases. Police are exploring whether the thefts were part of an organised effort.
Two of the registered cases were highlighted in recent complaints. An 18-year-old student from Mumbai lodged an e-FIR after losing his mobile phone, worth Rs 60,000, near Gate No.1 between 11.30 pm and midnight. The student later visited the local police station to follow up on his report. In a separate complaint, a businessman from Ambaji reported that his son's mobile phone, valued at Rs 20,000, went missing while exiting through Gate No. 2 around 11.45 pm.&nbsp;
Meanwhile, two FIRs were also registered in separate incidents of ticket black marketing. Police arrested three individuals and recovered a total of 15 tickets. Investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of any larger network involved in the resale of IPL final tickets.
In an earlier development, Gujarat University Police apprehended Bhavuk Chauhan, a 21-year-old resident of the Commerce Six Roads locality, for selling final match tickets at inflated rates without authorisation.&nbsp;
Chauhan was detained near a Metro Pillar in the Navrangpura area at approximately 6.50 pm following a tip-off. Officers on patrol discovered him attempting to sell tickets to pedestrians.
A search revealed 11 tickets in Chauhan&rsquo;s trouser pocket, covering seats in Block Q, Upper, and Block N, Upper, with official values ranging from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000. Chauhan admitted during questioning that he had acquired the tickets online and was selling them at prices reaching Rs 5,000 each.&nbsp;
He acknowledged having no official dealership or resale licence. The police registered a case under applicable sections of the Gujarat Police Act and seized the tickets as part of the investigation. Authorities are currently verifying whether Chauhan&rsquo;s activities were linked to a broader ticket resale operation.
