A case has been filed against Kris Gopalakrishnan, the co-founder of Infosys, by Karnataka police under the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe Prevention of Atrocities Act.&nbsp;
The complaint was filed against Gopalakrishnan, former director of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Balaram, and 16 other individuals.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The Case
According to the complaint, Gopalakrishnan was involved in trapping the complainant, Durgaappa, in a false honeytrap case in 2014, which led to his job termination. Durgaappa, who belongs to the indigenous Bovi community, has also alleged that he faced caste-based slurs and death threats.
The FIR, filed by Karnataka police at Sadashiv Nagar police station in Bengaluru, was registered following instructions from the 71st City Civil and Sessions Court.&nbsp;
The accused include Govindan Rangarajan, Sridhar Warrior, Sandhya Vishweshwarai, Hari KVS, Dasappa, Balaram P, Hemlata Mishi, Chattopadhyay K, Pradeep D Sawkar, and Manoharan. An investigation is currently underway.
Who is Kris Gopalakrishnan?
Born in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, Kris Gopalakrishnan completed his schooling there before pursuing his degree at IIT Madras. He worked as a software engineer at Patni Computer Systems in 1979.
He co-founded Infosys in 1981 with NR Narayana Murthy, Nandan Nilekani, and four others in Pune. The company&rsquo;s headquarters are in Bengaluru.&nbsp;
Gopalakrishnan served as the CEO and Managing Director of Infosys from 2007 to 2011 and later as Vice Chairman from 2011 to 2014. He holds a Master&rsquo;s degree in Physics and Computer Science from IIT Madras and is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineers (INAE).
In January 2011, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, the country&rsquo;s third highest civilian honour . In 2019, Gopalakrishnan was conferred with an honorary Doctorate by the University of Kerala.
Other Contributions and Recognition Besides his work at Infosys, Gopalakrishnan is also the chairman of the startup accelerator &lsquo;Axilor Ventures&rsquo;.
Globally recognized, Gopalakrishnan has been listed among the &lsquo;Global Business Influencers&rsquo; by Fortune magazine. In 2019, he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Kerala.
