An Indore resident, Aqueel Sheikh, was arrested last week after allegedly molesting two Australian women cricketers in the Madhya Pradesh city. The arrest followed a six-hour police operation, during which officers tracked and detained him in a local area.
According to reports, Sheikh has been booked under sections BNS 74 and BNS 78 for inappropriate behaviour and stalking. The incident occurred on October 23, when the two visiting players stepped out of their hotel to visit a nearby caf&eacute;. Sheikh allegedly drove past on a bike and molested them, prompting a swift complaint to the local authorities.
Police took Sheikh into two-day custody for further investigation, revealing his extensive criminal background.
A Habitual Offender With a Decade of Crime
Investigations uncovered that Sheikh&rsquo;s criminal record dates back to 2012, when he was first booked for breaking into a home and stealing a gas cylinder. Over the years, he has been linked to multiple offences, including theft, robbery, and drug use.
In 2017, Sheikh served a three-year jail term for a robbery conviction, during which he reportedly got into a violent altercation with inmates in the prison kitchen. He was later booked under the Excise Act in 2018, caught smoking marijuana in 2022, and again accused in cases of attempted murder (2023) and violent robbery (2024).
Police said the accused was a repeat offender and had been under watch for years. His arrest has sparked outrage, especially given the involvement of international players and his unchecked history of crime in Indore.
