Chandigarh &mdash; IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, wife of late Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, who allegedly died by suicide on October 7, said on Wednesday that she gave her consent for the autopsy after receiving assurances from the Chandigarh Police of a fair and impartial investigation, and from the Haryana government that action would be taken against any &ldquo;erring&rdquo; officials.
The family, which had earlier refused consent, agreed to the post-mortem of the senior Dalit IPS officer after both assurances were provided. 
Following the decision, the autopsy began at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh.
In an official statement, Amneet Kumar said, &ldquo;In view of the assurance extended by the Union Territory Police for conducting a fair, transparent, and impartial investigation, and the commitment conveyed by the Government of Haryana to take appropriate action against any erring officials in due course of law, I have consented to the conduct of the post-mortem examination of Late Y Puran Kumar, IPS.&rdquo;
She added that the post-mortem was being conducted &ldquo;as per prescribed procedure, by a Board of Doctors, in the presence of a ballistic expert, under magistrate supervision, and with complete videography to ensure transparency.&rdquo;
Expressing trust in the system, Amneet said, &ldquo;I have full faith in the judiciary and the police authorities and sincerely hope that the investigation will be conducted professionally, impartially, and in a time-bound manner so that the truth emerges in accordance with law.&rdquo;
She also pledged full cooperation with investigators to expedite the process and urged the media to respect the sensitivity of the matter. 
&ldquo;No further public statement shall be issued at this stage,&rdquo; she added.
On Wednesday, the officer&rsquo;s family arrived at PGIMER to identify the body and complete formalities before the autopsy.
Earlier, on Tuesday, the Chandigarh Police had approached a local court, seeking directions for the family to identify the body and allow the post-mortem. 
The court had issued a notice to Amneet Kumar, directing her to respond by October 15, either personally or through counsel.
Inspector General Y Puran Kumar, 52, allegedly shot himself dead at his residence in Chandigarh. 
However, the post-mortem had been delayed as the family refused consent, demanding that action first be taken against certain Haryana officials named in the officer&rsquo;s final note.
