A Haryana-based agent has been arrested by the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) Police for allegedly facilitating a fake Canadian visa for a passenger attempting to travel to Canada via Taiwan.
The case emerged during the night of June 23-24, when Tarsem Lal (47), a resident of Mehar Majra, was sent back from Taiwan after being denied onward travel to Canada. Upon his return to IGI Airport, immigration officers found a counterfeit Canadian visitor visa pasted in his passport. Tarsem was immediately taken into custody and booked for trying to enter Canada using forged documents.
During questioning, Tarsem revealed that he had approached agent Vishan Dutt, also known as Vishu (30), to help him migrate to Canada, inspired by the success of his relatives who had already settled there. Vishan promised to arrange a multiple-entry Canadian visa and secure job opportunities in return for ₹15 lakh.
Tarsem initially paid ₹1 lakh via bank transfer, ₹1.5 lakh through UPI to the agent's wife, and ₹3.5 lakh in cash. The remaining amount was to be paid after reaching Canada.
Tarsem's travel began on May 11 with a flight from Delhi to Malaysia, where he stayed for nearly a month. During this time, an associate of the agent took his passport and returned it with a fake Canadian visa. His journey then continued through Indonesia, Bangkok, and Taipei. However, Taiwanese authorities spotted the fake visa and deported him back to Delhi.
Following this, police launched a manhunt to track down the agent. After several raids and technical surveillance, Vishan Dutt was arrested from Yamuna Nagar.
During interrogation, he admitted to orchestrating the fake visa scheme. A school dropout, Vishan got involved with a network of fraudulent agents in 2022 in pursuit of fast money. He confessed to arranging fake documents and coordinating Tarsem's travel through multiple countries to make the journey appear legitimate.
