A major terror plot was thwarted in Gujarat after the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) arrested three operatives linked to ISKP, including a Hyderabad-based doctor allegedly preparing a highly lethal toxin for a large-scale attack.
The arrests were made near the Adalaj toll plaza in Gandhinagar, where ATS teams intercepted a silver Ford Figo following technical surveillance. Inside, officers found Dr. Ahmed Mohiuddin Sayed, who had completed his MBBS in China. &ldquo;We received specific intelligence that Dr. Ahmed had arrived in Gujarat to execute a terror strike,&rdquo; ATS DIG Sunil Joshi said. The team recovered two Glock pistols, one Beretta pistol, 30 live cartridges and chemicals, along with 4 litres of castor oil.
During interrogation, Dr. Sayed admitted that he had sourced the weapons from a graveyard near Kalol and was working under the instructions of &lsquo;Abu Khadija,&rsquo; an Afghanistan-based handler linked to ISKP. &ldquo;He also revealed his connections with several Pakistani operatives,&rdquo; Joshi added. According to investigators, Dr. Sayed had already begun initial chemical processes to create a toxin &ldquo;more dangerous than cyanide,&rdquo; intended for food-based dissemination.
Two other operatives, Azad Suleman Sheikh and Mohammad Suhail, both from Uttar Pradesh, were arrested from Banaskantha after they allegedly transported the weapons from Rajasthan&rsquo;s Hanumangarh. The ATS said the pair had conducted reconnaissance in Lucknow, Delhi and Ahmedabad&rsquo;s sensitive zones, acting on instructions from across the border. &ldquo;Their handlers were sending weapons via drones from Pakistan,&rdquo; the officer said.
Digital forensics recovered from Dr. Sayed&rsquo;s phone show extensive communication with foreign elements via Telegram. Investigators believe the module had raised funds and chalked out a blueprint for multiple coordinated attacks across India. With the arrests, the ATS has widened the probe across states to identify the module&rsquo;s entire network.
This action comes months after the ATS busted an AQIS-linked module, arresting four operatives from Ahmedabad, Modasa, Delhi and Noida. Officials say the latest case once again reveals the expanding digital footprint of global terror outfits targeting India.
