Five individuals have been detained in Kolkata&rsquo;s New Town area in connection with the high-profile murder of gangster Chandan Kumar alias Chandan Mishra, who was shot dead inside the ICU of a private hospital in Patna.
The operation was carried out through a joint raid by the Patna Police and the Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police. The detainees were picked up from a housing complex in New Town, which falls under the jurisdiction of Bidhannagar City Police.
Deputy Commissioner (New Town) Manav Singla confirmed that some persons were taken in for questioning linked to the case. However, no formal arrests have been made so far.
According to initial findings, the detained suspects are believed to have been directly involved in Thursday&rsquo;s brutal murder. Mishra, a murder convict, was on medical parole from Beur Jail and had been undergoing treatment when five armed men stormed the hospital ICU and fatally shot him.
Police believe the assailants fled Patna and took shelter in the New Town area of Kolkata shortly after the crime.
Chandan Kumar had a long criminal history, with 24 cases lodged against him across police stations in Buxar district. His killing came just a day before his scheduled discharge from the hospital.
The audacious hospital shooting has once again raised alarm over the deteriorating law and order situation in Patna, which has witnessed a spate of murders in recent weeks, including those of businessman Gopal Khemka, BJP leader Surendra Kewat, and advocate Jitendra Mahato.
