A disturbing new detail has emerged in the gang rape case of a 25-year-old woman who was sexually assaulted inside a moving vehicle and later abandoned on a road earlier this week. Investigators have confirmed that the crime was carried out inside a private hospital&rsquo;s ambulance, not a van as initially believed.
A senior police officer said on Sunday that both accused were employed with the ambulance service of a private hospital, working as a driver and a helper. The two men, residents of Mathura and Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh, have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
Six days after the incident, the survivor continues to remain hospitalised, officials said.
Meanwhile, a video purportedly recorded by the victim after the assault has surfaced on social media. In the clip, the woman claims that shortly after she accepted a lift, one of the accused transferred ₹600 to her digital payment account, after which they locked the vehicle and took away her mobile phone. She also said poor visibility due to dense fog and the deserted road prevented her from getting any help. Police said the authenticity of the video is yet to be verified.
Investigators said that once the survivor&rsquo;s medical condition improves, a formal identification parade of the accused will be conducted before a magistrate. Further questioning will be carried out by seeking a production warrant from the jail.
According to police records, the woman had visited a friend&rsquo;s house in Sector 23 of Faridabad on Monday evening. While returning home, she took an auto-rickshaw to NIT 2 Chowk and then walked towards Metro Chowk. Around midnight, while waiting for another auto, the two accused offered her a lift.
Instead of dropping her off at home, they allegedly drove towards Gurugram, sexually assaulted her inside the moving ambulance, and continued driving through the night. The woman was later pushed out of the vehicle near Raja Chowk in Faridabad around 3 am on Tuesday. She was subsequently admitted to a private hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
The case has intensified concerns over safety and the misuse of emergency medical vehicles, prompting calls for stricter monitoring and accountability.
