A five-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted in Gandhinagar in the early hours of Monday, triggering swift police action and the detention of four individuals for questioning. The incident occurred in the Indira Nagar shanty settlement under the Sector 21 police station limits.
Police said the child, who lives with her family in makeshift housing, woke up during the night to use the washroom while others were asleep. It was during this time that the assault is believed to have taken place. The girl later alerted her family, initially telling her grandmother that a &ldquo;ghost&rdquo; had come. Bloodstains on her clothes raised alarm, and she was rushed to hospital.
Doctors confirmed sexual assault following a medical examination. The child remains under treatment, and a detailed medical report has been sought to assess the extent of injuries. Forensic teams have collected evidence from the spot, while statements of family members and neighbours are being recorded.
ASP Ayush Jain said police acted immediately. &ldquo;The police had immediately begun an investigation and had already detained four persons who were being interrogated. Further investigation is underway,&rdquo; he said.&nbsp;
Reacting strongly, Gujarat AAP chief Isudan Gadhvi said, &ldquo;This is a jungle raj-like situation in Gujarat. Three girls were raped in 10 days. Our demand before the government is that the criminals be punished severely and Gujarat becomes a peaceful state again.&rdquo; Police said the case has been formally registered and further action is ongoing.
