The grieving family of 13-year-old Tamanna Khatun, who died in a bomb blast during a political victory procession in Kaliganj, Nadia district, is moving the Calcutta High Court to demand a CBI investigation into her death.
Her mother, accusing the state police of a biased and ineffective probe, confirmed that senior advocate and CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP Bikas Ranjan Bhattacharya will represent the family. &ldquo;The police probe is just eyewash. Several accused are still free,&rdquo; she stated.
Tamanna was allegedly killed by bomb splinters during a Trinamool Congress (TMC) celebration following their candidate Alifa Ahmed&rsquo;s bypoll win on June 23. The girl&rsquo;s family, longtime CPI(M) supporters, believe their home was deliberately targeted for political reasons.
So far, nine people have been arrested, but 15 others&mdash;allegedly linked to TMC&mdash;remain at large. The victim&rsquo;s father, initially trusting of state authorities, now insists on a CBI probe, saying, &ldquo;All we want is justice for our daughter.&rdquo;
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also taken suo motu cognisance and asked for a detailed report from the Krishnanagar District SP.
