Haryana Police on Tuesday booked former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Mohammad Mustafa and his wife, former minister Razia Sultana, for the alleged murder of their son , Aqil Akhtar, 35, in Panchkula on the night of October 16.
Earlier, police had reported that Aqil was found unconscious at his residence in Sector 4, Mansa Devi Complex, Panchkula, by his family members. 
He was taken to Civil Hospital, Sector 6, where doctors declared him brought dead.&nbsp;
Following this, statements were recorded, and no suspicion or foul play was raised at the time. 
After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family, who took it to their native village in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh,&nbsp; for the last rites.
However, the case took a sharp turn when Shamshudeen Chaudhary, a resident of Malerkotla (Punjab), held a press conference in Panchkula, presenting a social media post by Aqil from August.
In the post, Aqil had made serious allegations against his family and expressed fear for his life.&nbsp;
Chaudhary also shared a screenshot of Aqil&rsquo;s diary and filed a written complaint with the Panchkula Police, the Haryana DGP, and Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, urging a fair and impartial investigation.
Following the complaint and the evidence from Aqil&rsquo;s social media posts, an FIR was registered at the Mansa Devi Complex (MDC) police station against the former DGP, his wife, their daughter, and daughter-in-law in connection with Aqil&rsquo;s mysterious death.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Srishti Gupta confirmed that the case has been registered under Section 103(1) (murder) and Section 61 (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
To ensure an impartial and evidence-based investigation, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed under the supervision of an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP)-rank officer.
DCP Gupta stated that the SIT will carry out the probe &ldquo;with an open mind and without prejudice, ensuring no guilty person escapes justice and no innocent person suffers.&rdquo;
Aqil is survived by his wife, a homemaker, and two young children &mdash; a five-year-old son and a seven-year-old daughter.
Mohammad Mustafa, who retired from the Punjab Police in 2021, later joined the Congress.&nbsp;
His wife, Razia Sultana, is a senior Congress leader and a three-time MLA from Malerkotla.
