The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday arrested Chaitanya Baghel, businessman and son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, in connection with a major money laundering probe linked to the state's liquor policy.
The arrest followed an early morning raid at Chaitanya&rsquo;s residence in Bhilai. ED officials allege that during the Congress-led government&rsquo;s tenure, illegal proceeds worth over ₹1,000 crore were generated and partially routed through real estate firms connected to Chaitanya and his associates.
This investigation stems from an FIR filed by the Chhattisgarh Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), naming 70 individuals and entities, including ex-excise minister Kawasi Lakhma.
Reacting strongly, Bhupesh Baghel accused the BJP-led central government of misusing investigative agencies to target opposition leaders. &ldquo;Just as we planned to raise the Adani issue in the Assembly, ED was sent to my home. This is not law, it&rsquo;s political revenge,&rdquo; Baghel said in Raipur.
He also alleged the misuse of agencies like ED, CBI, and IT to crush dissent, but reiterated faith in the judiciary and democratic institutions.
