In a shocking twist, Delhi Police revealed that the alleged acid attack on a 20-year-old Delhi University student outside Lakshmi Bai College on Sunday was fabricated by her own family to settle old personal disputes.
The student, enrolled in DU&rsquo;s School of Open Learning, initially claimed that three men on a bike hurled acid on her while she was on her way to college. She was admitted to RML Hospital with burns on her hands. However, inconsistencies in her statement and CCTV footage soon led investigators to doubt her version.
According to officials, the woman&rsquo;s brother later confessed that the entire episode was orchestrated by their father. &ldquo;The father influenced his daughter and son to stage this. He carefully planned the charade to make it appear as if a stalker had attacked his daughter near college. We are questioning more people,&rdquo; said a senior police officer.
Investigations found that the supposed main accused had earlier filed an FIR against the woman&rsquo;s father, accusing him of raping and blackmailing his wife. Police also verified that the alleged attacker was in Karol Bagh, miles away, at the time of the incident. Further inquiry revealed that the two other men named were distant relatives, with whom the family had a long-standing property dispute. In fact, police said, the woman&rsquo;s father had allegedly attacked their mother with acid back in 2018.
&ldquo;During questioning, the woman admitted that it was her father who attacked her with a strong toilet cleaner, while her brother later dropped her near the college,&rdquo; said a senior officer. The father, arrested from Sangam Vihar, now faces charges for both faking the acid attack and raping the neighbour&rsquo;s wife. Police have also initiated criminal conspiracy charges against the family.
Bhisham Singh, DCP (Northwest), confirmed, &ldquo;We have evidence that the main accused named in the woman&rsquo;s complaint was not behind the attack. The others she named were minors and out of town during the incident.&rdquo;
